self portraits from over the years
The first is an oil from 1964. I was 22 at the time.
The second is a watercolor on hand made French paper about ten by twelve inches. It is the eleventh painting in a series PRAYERS FROM VERMONT.
HIGHTOWER GIRL is from 2000-2001, a reflection of my life at that point, the positive and the negative. It is on d'Arches paper about 44 by 47 inches.
ISHMALLIYYIH was a self portrait done for my Uyghur and Han students at Xinjiang Arts College where I was teaching Cubism, the Gateway to Modern Western Painting. I was using the style of Synthetic Cubism with images and symbols of the Uyghur people.
